Awwww, THANK YOU guys! I feel very happy you decided me to be the winner, but sad at the same time because Alexis or Andrew (as well as Jasmine and Helen) deserved to win too! I hope you had fun and learnt new things about Science. I personally did it myself! :-D
Favourite Thing: I love meeting and talking to other scientists, discover what they are doing and share some ideas about our research!
2010-2013, University College London (UK); 2009-2010, University of Greenwich (UK); 2005-2009, University Complutense of Madrid (Spain); 1993-2005: S.Viator School (Spain)
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, MRes in Systems Biology
PhD student in Cell Biology

Me and my work
I’m trying to find out why cells become crazy and start dividing uncontrollably, creating tumours and cancer
My Typical Day
I normally check that my cells are OK, take some of them to do experiments, looking at others under the microscope and analyse data in the computer from past experiments (all with the help of coffee!)
What I'd do with the money
I would set up a Science club for schools, with workshops in which students could play and learn using scientific experiments
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Friendly, kind and funny!
Who is your favourite singer or band?
It is difficult to choose only one… I’m going to say Franz Ferdinand, because I had the chance to meet them here in London!
What's your favourite food?
I am from Spain, so I love paella and Spanish omelette!
What is the most fun thing you've done?
I worked one summer in an amusement park, and I could get in for free every day!
What did you want to be after you left school?
A scientific policeman, collecting evidences from crime scenes to discover and get the bad guys into jail.
Were you ever in trouble in at school?
I was a very good boy, but I remember my friends and I went outside the school once during the break when it was forbidden. I was so embarrased when my teacher caught us!
What was your favourite subject at school?
I loved Maths, but I enjoyed studying History as well.
What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?
I have been organising for a year Science cafés, which are meetings in the pub where non-scientific people can listen and ask questions to real scientists.
What or who inspired you to become a scientist?
Do you know CSI, the TV show about the crime scene investigators? I was in love with the job they were doing there, so I wanted to work in a lab solving mysteries!
If you weren't a scientist, what would you be?
I always wanted to be a doctor, but… I’m scared of needles! :-S Maybe a detective, it is closer to my scientific policeman dream job.
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
1) To be able to control the time (stop, pause and/or rewind!); 2) To travel around the world; 3) To eat as much chocolate as I want without getting ill!
Tell us a joke.
Why everyone loves the mushroom? Because he is a fungi! ;-P (‘fungi’ is pronounced ‘fun guy’)
