This was such an interesting question I just had to investigate the answer. Ok, here goes…So it all began with the Big Bang around 13 billion years ago. This is the age of the universe. At this time there was no structure to the universe and therefore no galaxies. The galaxies as we know them today started to appear shortly after the big bang due to primordial fluctuations. Primordial fluctuations are small changes in the density of the universe in a specific section of it. So I think the galaxy we are in was created shortly after the Big Bang – but I’m no expert!
