All animals are grouped into categories based on their characteristics. Dogs and foxes are in the same family called the Canidae. Wolves and Jackals are also in this family. Humans are in the family called Hominidae which also includes chimpanzees and gorillas! Like we can make a family tree and discover our ancestors; you can create a family tree to see how different species are related to each other. This is called a phylogenetic tree. If you do this for foxes and dogs, you will see that after several generations they have a common ancestor. They are now very different from each other because of the changes each species have made to live a successful and healthy life.
