      I guess when I started to study Chemistry and I got my first labcoat! Or maybe during the last year of my degree, when I had the chance to work in a real lab for a whole year.

      Hi
      @tjphotos

      I had a science kit at home and I loved messing around with that. But I really got into being a scientist at school. I found it enjoyable and things that are enjoyable are easy to work on. Biology was especially fun and I caught the biology ‘bug’ when I started to learn about the human body and how it works. But it wasn’t until I started learning about how infections could destroy the human body that I really knew what I wanted to do….. microbiology. I loved this degree at Uni.

      I had a whale of a time. 🙂

      Hi all! I guess I first started to become a scientist when I chose my GCSEs. I chose Triple Science because I enjoyed science and liked subjects where things were definitely right or wrong (not like English and History which depended on whether the teacher liked your essay/poem or not!). Then I did Biology, Chemistry and Maths for A-Level and decided to do a Natural Sciences degree at University. After my first 3 year degree, I did a one year Masters degree which was good because it was more about working in the lab rather than lectures and learning facts. Then I did a 4 year PhD which was awesome because it was all in the lab. I guess at the end of my PhD I would have been classed a “fully trained” scientist although really, you learn the whole time and are never really fully trained!

      Great question! I always loved Science and wanted to be a Vet when I was younger. When I couldn’t do that I decided that I wanted to stick with Science and preferably do research that would benefit animals in some way!
