Normally, cells start to misbehave and multiply much more often than usual, creating tumours (lumps in different organs/parts of the body) and also invading other tissues. Why cells start to misbehave is not clear for all types of cancer. In general, mutations produce changes in the DNA (where we store out genetic information), and those changes alter how cells should be and work.
