In my opinion it would be to be tidy! Working in a lab and sharing equipment and material with everyone else means that you have to be very organised and tidy so that everyone knows exactly where everything is.

My number 2 policy in the lab is talk. The more scientists interact the more they learn from each other.

What an interesting question! My number one policy is clean up after yourself. When you share a lab with other people you need to make sure you don’t disrupt their work by leaving the lab messy. My second policy is to make sure you always check where you should use certain chemicals and what safety precautions you need to take.

If you muck up anyone’s experiments, it better only be your own!

I hope all the people in my lab are well trained and work really well. But if someone is lazy and careless, it can affect the work of others. This can be devastating.

I once threw away the cells someone was working on. It was an accident and they had put them in a tube without labelling the tube. I was being super clean and efficient. I felt so bad I made more cells for them (lots of work, get blood from someone, lots of centrifuging….). So rule number 2: label all your tubes and bottles!
