Liquid nitrogen is really cold (around -196 degrees celsius)! So if you spilt it on yourself you would get pretty nasty cold burns. That is why you have to be really careful when you are using it!
It is really cold. But if it doesn’t ‘pool’ on you, it will run off you before it burns. You certainly wouldn’t want to hold it in the palm of your hand. One of the biggest problems with liquid nitrogen though is that as it becomes a gas, it expands massively…..if you are in a small room and because it is heavier than air, it would push all the air (and oxygen) above your head and you’d suffocate. 1 litre of liquid nitrogen would make about 700 litres of nitrogen gas!
