The best part of my job is learning more about my cells and how what I find out can help treat joint diseases in dogs!

      What a great question.

My job involves teaching as well as research. And I love both bits in a different way. There’s something amazing in watching cells down a microscope. And I’m talking about a great microscope….. probably not the ones that you are used to using in schools. They are fine……until you want to look in close detail, at a particular cells. You can see some pretty great images of cells on my profile. they are beautiful.

But teaching ….. communicating science is rewarding in a different way. If I am teaching stuff that I love (cell death, immunity, infection), my enthusiasm is clearly detected by the students. It is fantastic to talk with a group of students in a class and watch then getting more and more interested. If I inspire one student to love science….. there can’t be anything better than that can there?

BUt without my research, my teaching wouldn’t be so exciting.

I guess I just love my job.

Doing experiments that no one has done before and discovering new things about how cells work that no one else knows. That and the fact that every day is different.
