I think working with human blood cells was quite exciting, I would get anonymous samples of blood (but sometimes it would be from my friend and she would tell me, which was a little bit naughty!) and would have to separate out the white blood cells from the red ones. Then once I had the white ones, I would give them a treatment and stain them so they would be colourful when I looked at them under the microscope. It was also the first time I had done a lot of these techniques, so the first time I saw the cells that I had isolated, treated and stained was really exciting. They were really pretty, glowing in blue and green. I felt like a real scientist!! I still get a buzz looking down the microscope sometimes, even though I’ve done it many more times since.
